Gladstone PCYC Roller Derby

Gladstone PCYC Roller Derby

Any way you look at it, Roller Derby is frenetic, fascinating, and just plain fun.

Gladstone’s PCYC opened its doors at 53 Yarroon Street to the world’s fastest growing women’s sport in June of 2010, and we haven’t looked back.

Our league is steadily growing in size, experience and reputation at home in Gladstone and throughout Queensland. Our two intra-league home teams, the Royal Pains and Carnage Crew, were christened in July 2012 and are eagerly awaiting the graduation of our lovingly-named Fresh Meat.

Represented by our travel team, the Harbour City Hustlers (yay!), Gladstone PCYC Roller Derby is going from strength to strength. Beginning with our inaugural bout against the Bundaberg Zombees in October 2011, our Hustlers have an exceptional record for a fledgling team, posting two home ground victories over the Brisbane City Rollers’ Dark Horses on March 17 and the Tweed Valley Vixens on August 11. We have been tough competitors away from home as well, fighting hard against Mackay and, most recently, the Gold Coast’s A side, the Maids of Pain.

Gladstone PCYC Roller Derby is an inclusive league, with skaters of all abilities and experience welcome, whether they‘re male or female. Although bouting skaters must be over 18, younger members of the community are welcome to train and contribute as referees and non-skating officials (NSOs).

We have sporadic Fresh meat programs during the year (keep your eyes peeled!) for new skaters, where you’ll be taught the skills you need to be a derby girl (or guy!). We currently have an open session for new skaters on Tuesday nights from 6-7:30, and for when you inevitably get hooked, a closed session for registered Fresh Meat on Sundays (1pm-2:30). Our Hustlers train after the Fresh Meat sessions on Sundays and Tuesdays.

So, to sum up – Roller Derby=awesome. Harbour City Hustlers=Super Yay. Training=Tuesday and Sunday at Gladstone PCYC (join in!). Like our page, lend your support and join us play – You’ll be blown away!
